Many people dream of moving to the United States in search of better opportunities or as a means of escaping poverty and conflict.

The US is home to more immigrants than any other nation, surpassing the combined totals of Saudi Arabia, Germany, Russia, and the United Kingdom.

Around 1,018,340 people received green cards in 2022 from across the world to the USA, but which ranks the highest? Below is the list of countries (Source: Visual Capitalist):

Mexico continues to be the largest source of immigration to the United States with 10.7 million immigrants. As a result, around 1,39,000 green cards were granted in 2022. Many Mexican immigrants to the US travel in search of better job prospects, higher living standards, and family reunification.

India comes in second place, having granted 1,27,000 green cards to immigrants. Indian immigration to the US has increased as a result of the nation’s large pool of highly skilled workers, especially in the tech and healthcare industries, who are looking for better job prospects and access to higher education.

The year 2020 saw a 10-year low of 46,363 new permanent residents from India, presumably as a result of tighter COVID-19 travel restrictions.

Since then, though, immigration has increased, reaching 93,450 in 2021 and 127,012 in 2022.

Two-thirds of all green cards issued in 2022—265,784—were obtained by immigrants from Mexico and India combined.
