There is a new problem that could cause your iPhone to crash if you own one.
According to TechCrunch, an iOS bug has been discovered recently that causes your device to crash when you type just four specific characters from your keyboard.
According to the news source, a security researcher discovered that the Apple mobile user interface, known as Springboard, can crash when you type “”::
TechCrunch confirmed that typing those characters into the Settings app’s search bar and the App Library search bar on your home screen—which is located entirely to the right—does, in fact, cause Springboard to crash.
As mentioned by others, “”: and any additional character suffice. When the bug is triggered, Springboard momentarily crashes and then reloads to your lock screen. The bug briefly caused the screen to go black during other tests.
Researchers who spoke with TechCrunch said that the bug doesn’t seem to pose a security risk. After looking into the matter, iOS security expert Ryan Stortz declared, “It’s not a security bug.”
The fact was also confirmed by Patrick Wardle, an iOS researcher and the creator of the security company DoubleYou.
The iPhone’s springboard crashes and reloads to the lock screen when the bug is activated, according to Forbes. The screen may occasionally flash black before anything else.
The bug causes iPhones to crash when you type characters into the Settings app’s search bar or the App Library search bar by swiping all the way to the right on your home screen.
