According to the visual capital list, the highest-paid government official is Singapore’s prime minister, Lawrence Wong, who makes over $1.06 million a year. A 13th-month bonus and other benefits are part of his yearly compensation package.
Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu, who makes $695,00 a year, comes in second in the list. In 1997, as Hong Kong was being transferred from the United Kingdom to the People’s Republic of China, his role was established to take the place of the governor of Hong Kong, who served as the king’s envoy.
Viola Amherd, the president of Switzerland, holds the third position.
Fourth on the list with an annual salary of $400,000 is US President Joe Biden.
Ursula von der Leyen, a German politician who does not hold the position of head of state, is interestingly ranked seventh with a salary of $364,000.
As an alternative, she was named the 13th president of the European Commission in December 2019, making her the head of the EU’s executive branch.
