In the world, there are over 5,000 airlines. However, only a small number of them differentiate themselves from the others based on factors like customer satisfaction, revenue, or fleet size.

Here are the top Five largest airlines in the world.

1. Delta Airlines

As of January 2023, Delta Air Lines had assets of $73.13 billion and generated revenue of $53.99 billion, making it the largest airline in the world in terms of revenue. The US airline was founded in 1924 and operates flights to numerous destinations worldwide with a fleet of over 900 aircraft. Delta has developed into a major player in the aviation industry, with major hubs strategically located in Detroit, Minneapolis, and Atlanta.

2. American Airlines Group

As one of the aviation industry’s titans, American Airlines Group is ranked second among the largest airlines by revenue. As of January 2023, it had assets of $66.78 billion and $52.2 billion in revenue. With a substantial fleet and wide network, the airline behemoth was established in 2013 as a result of the merger of American Airlines and US Airways.

3. United Airlines Holdings

4. Lufthansa Group

In the aviation industry, the Lufthansa Group is thought to be among the largest airlines in terms of revenue. As of January 2023, the airline had assets of $48.79 billion and revenue of $35.8 billion. The conglomerate was founded in 1953 and is home to a number of well-known airlines, including Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Swiss International Air Lines, and Brussels Airlines.

5. Emirates

Emirates, one of the largest airlines globally in terms of sales, reported $33 billion in earnings for 2023. Founded in 1985 and headquartered in Dubai, Emirates is a globally recognized enterprise renowned for its exceptional service and extensive network. By 2023, the airline had expanded to serve over 150 destinations across six continents, solidifying its position as a major player in the global aviation industry.
