Eliga Consultancy: Transforming Contract Management for the Tech Industry

Eliga Consultancy is redefining the way technology businesses handle commercial contracts. Founded with the goal of providing agile, high-quality contract services, Eliga bridges the gap between traditional legal firms and the fast-moving demands of the tech sector. With deep expertise in technology and law, Eliga ensures that businesses—whether startups or established enterprises—receive tailored contract solutions that prioritize both speed and legal integrity.

Business Now spoke with a spokesperson from Eliga to discuss the inspiration behind the consultancy, the biggest contract pitfalls tech companies face, and how Eliga is helping businesses navigate complex agreements while minimizing risk.

Business Now: What inspired you to start Eliga Consultancy, and how did your previous in-house experience in the technology sector shape your approach to commercial contracts?

Eliga: I was inspired to start Eliga Consultancy because I saw a gap in the market for agile, high-quality contract services that cater specifically to the fast-evolving technology sector. In my previous in-house roles, I witnessed firsthand how challenging it can be for tech businesses, particularly smaller ones, to navigate the complexities of commercial contracts. Traditional law firms can be slow, costly, and less attuned to the pace of technology companies. This led me to create Eliga, a boutique consultancy that combines legal expertise with industry insight, offering tailored solutions to meet the specific needs of technology businesses. My in-house experience has helped me understand the importance of responsiveness and flexibility while ensuring legal precision—qualities that are essential in today’s competitive tech landscape.

Given the fast-paced nature of the tech industry, how do you ensure that your clients receive agile yet comprehensive contract services without compromising on legal integrity?

Agility is at the heart of our services. In the tech industry, speed is crucial, but it’s just as important to ensure that contracts are legally sound and provide sufficient protection. We achieve this balance by leveraging our deep knowledge of both the law and the tech sector, allowing us to streamline the contract process without sacrificing quality. Our team is highly experienced in handling a variety of contract types—everything from software licenses to data-processing agreements—so we can quickly identify the key risks and issues that need attention. This enables us to provide rapid, tailored advice that maintains the legal integrity and security of our clients’ businesses.

What are some of the common pitfalls you see technology businesses encounter when it comes to commercial contracts, and how does Eliga help them avoid these risks?

One of the most common pitfalls I see is businesses signing contracts without fully understanding the implications, particularly around intellectual property, data privacy, and liability. Many companies focus on speed or cost when entering contracts, but they don’t take the time to thoroughly review the terms, which can expose them to significant risks down the line. C helps clients avoid these risks by providing clear, concise, and actionable contract reviews. We focus on ensuring that clients fully understand the terms they’re agreeing to and, where necessary, we negotiate better terms to protect their interests, such as limiting liability and clarifying intellectual property rights. We also ensure compliance with the latest regulations, especially around data privacy, which is critical for tech businesses today.

Can you share a specific example where your expertise in negotiating or reviewing contracts significantly helped a client mitigate a potential business risk or enhanced their operational success?

One example that stands out is a situation where a growing tech company was entering into a strategic partnership with a large vendor. The initial contract had clauses that exposed them to significant financial penalties if certain milestones weren’t met, even though the company had no control over some of the external factors affecting those milestones. By reviewing the contract in detail, we were able to identify these potential risks and renegotiate terms that were more favorable, reducing the financial exposure and allowing the client to focus on delivering quality without the fear of unreasonable penalties. This not only mitigated the potential risk but also strengthened their relationship with the vendor, leading to a successful, ongoing partnership.

Eliga’s services cater to businesses of all sizes, but what are some unique challenges that small or growing tech companies face when managing contracts, and how does Eliga tailor its approach to meet those needs?

Small and growing tech companies often face the challenge of managing contracts with limited resources and legal expertise. They may have limited in-house legal teams or none at all, making it harder to navigate the complexities of commercial contracts. They also tend to be more focused on growth and may overlook the potential risks in agreements, which can lead to operational setbacks down the line. At Eliga, we tailor our approach by providing flexible, cost-effective contract services that match the needs and budgets of smaller businesses. We act as an outsourced, in-house legal partner, helping them review, draft, and negotiate contracts swiftly while ensuring the terms align with their business goals. Our goal is to give these businesses the peace of mind to focus on what they do best—innovating and growing—while we handle the legal complexities.

Besides contract review and negotiation, does Eliga offer any other services?

Contract review and negotiation sit at the heart of Eliga, as that is what the business is built off of. Besides this, Eliga can also offer a range of strategic services. We can provide expert guidance on setting up and optimising in-house legal functions, ensuring businesses have the right processes, tools and frameworks in place. Additionally, we offer fractional services, acting as an out-sourced function to take on the burden of contract review and negotiation. This allows businesses to access high-quality experts on a flexible basis, whether they need ongoing support or targeted assistance for specific projects.
