When deciding which brand of car to buy, reliability—the degree to which a car operates consistently over time without developing mechanical problems or malfunctions—remains crucial.
Here is the list of predicted reliability scores of various automakers, as ranked by Consumer Reports.
As per the latest issue of their evaluations, Lexus emerged as the most trustworthy car brand, followed closely by Toyota, according to Consumer Reports.
In J.D. Power’s rankings of car dependability this year, the two Japanese automakers came in first and second.
Asian automakers led reliability metrics overall in 2023 by a significant margin with an average score of 63 for the region. Asian automakers are the source of seven out of the ten most dependable brands.
In particular, Japanese automakers account for six of the top ten and four of the top five most dependable car brands, dominating the top of the rankings.
The only other Asian automakers in the top 30 were Hyundai and Kia of South Korea, which came in at numbers 10 and 11, respectively, and Genesis, which came in at number 18.
European automakers ranked second in the region with a score of 46.
The top-ranked European brands were German automakers Porsche and BMW, which came in at eighth and ninth place, respectively, along with British automaker Mini, which came in third.
The most reliable American brand was Buick, placing 12th overall, and followed by Tesla and Ram in 14th and 15th respectively.
