According to reports, Nvidia and Apple are in discussions to contribute to OpenAI’s upcoming fundraising round, which could value the company that makes ChatGPT at $100 billion.
The New York Times reports that, based on its sources, Thrive Capital, an earlier OpenAI investor, would spearhead the deal, should it proceed.
The WSJ broke the news of Apple’s possible interest, and Bloomberg was the first to report on Nvidia’s involvement.
Microsoft, which currently holds a 49% stake in OpenAI, might also take part. OpenAI requires funding.
Its yearlyized revenue reportedly surpassed $3.04 billion at the beginning of the year, but as it increases its AI training and staffing efforts, it is expected to lose $5 billion by year’s end.
OpenAI is connected to both businesses. It uses Nvidia GPUs to run and train its generative AI models, while Apple earlier this year decided to include ChatGPT in iOS as a part of Apple Intelligence, the company’s upcoming AI feature set.
