2024: Countries With the Highest Food Inflation

Growing food inflation has an effect on global food security and disproportionately impacts populations that are already at risk.

This list uses the most recent data from Trading Economics to show which countries have the highest food inflation in 2024, ranging from South America to Africa and the Middle East.

Argentina is facing the highest food price increase of any country, rising 183% year over year. Additionally, the nation is expected to have the highest food inflation rate in the world for the second quarter of next year, at 120 percent.

Argentina’s high food inflation is caused by a combination of factors, including severe droughts, economic instability, political unrest, and currency devaluation.

At 115%, Palestine ranks second in terms of food inflation. But by the middle of 2025, it is predicted to drop sharply to 12%.

Meanwhile, Africa is home to six of the next eight nations. Zimbabwe and South Sudan have the highest rates of food inflation in Africa, at 105% and 96%, respectively.

Other African countries, such as Malawi, Nigeria, and Angola, experience rates ranging from 34% to 44% at the same time, underscoring the continent’s overall trend of food inflation.
